Biography

Diane Witcher is a Wyoming native and basketry artist who grew up on her family’s ranch near Casper. Diane has spent most her life living close to Wyoming’s natural wonders and working outdoors.

Her baskets reflect the beauty and love she has for the rugged Wyoming country.  Years ago while hiking in northeastern Wyoming Diane noticed the antler of a white tail deer lying on the ground in a manner that went on to inspire her original basket designs.

Since that time she has woven baskets around the shed antlers of mule deer, elk and moose, all of her own original design. The antler becomes part of the basket by weaving around them with reed, locally gathered willows, and other natural materials such as coconut, cane and grass fiber. She dyes reeds into  different colors to provide even more variety in the unique basket design.  Diane is an avid outdoorswoman and in tune with the changes of the seasons that influence her work. Diane collects shed antlers strictly in accordance with regulations for the lands where they are found.

Diane has been selling her work in galleries since 1988 and her baskets are in collections worldwide. In Jackson, Diane’s baskets are shown and sold at the Astoria Gallery and at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

Diane resides in Jackson, Wyoming with her husband Doug.
