As a child growing up in Visalia, California Diana McLaughlin enjoyed creative endeavors, but did not pursue formal art training. After graduating from UC Davis she enjoyed a career as a teacher and mother. She always felt the need to paint and one birthday her husband presented her with an easel, paints and lessons with Lucille von Wolffersdorff, She was on her way! Afterwards, Diana studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and took workshops from Ken Auster, Debra Huse, Peggy Kroll-Roberts and Carol Marine. She continues her studies weekly in Martha Cowan’s Advanced Oils Class at the Redlands Art Association. She gets inspiration, advice and friendship from her art collaborative, Studio Buckingham Group.
Diana’s work is in public and private collections. She was recently awarded 1st Place and the Past Presidents Award for her works in the 2019 Redlands Art Association Multi Media Mini Art Show. Her work, “View From The Porch” was accepted into the 2019 Artists Council Exhibit at the Galen Museum in Palm Desert. She was recently chosen as the Featured Artist at the Redlands Festival of Arts.
I create primarily oil paintings of everyday scenes and objects that catch my attention: A beautiful tree, a curious cow, a scene with gorgeous shadows. I work hard to develop paintings that speak both to me and to others about th beauty that exists all about us. I primarily paint from life or photos of experiences I’ve had. Painting has made me more aware of everything around me. Daily I am reminded to slow down to see and feel it all, and then, I can sometimes turn it into a painting! I am eternally grateful for that gift.
