Biography

Diana Erickson was born in 1959 in Palo Alto, California.  At the age of 14, she moved to Yosemite National Park, and her life was forever changed. There she fell in love with the beauty of nature: granite cliffs, trees, seasons, alpine glow, snowflakes, and starry nights. Her first job was with the Yosemite Natural History Association, where she wrote and illustrated a guide to trees for children entitled “What’s Your Name, Mr. Tree?”.

When Diana reached college, she studied both art and landscape architecture. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture in 1980, and spent 35 years working as a landscape architect for the Eldorado National Forest in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California, and the Chugach National Forest in Alaska. There she applied her design and planning skills to the design of recreation facilities including boat launching facilities, campgrounds and day use areas, wilderness management plans and interpretive signing.
Together with her husband, Diana raised two wonderful daughters. She became involved with community theater through her daughters, and did scenic painting on a large scale for over a dozen productions, including set design for A Secret Garden and The Diary of Anne Frank at Imagination Theater in Placerville, and for 42nd Street, Godspell and Cats at Studio 81, Eldorado High School in Placerville. After retiring from the Forest Service in 2016, she has been able to devote herself full time to her artwork. She particularly enjoys watercolor painting and making one-of-a-kind cloisonné enamel jewelry pieces.

Diana loves to travel, and recent trips to Guatemala, Alaska and Italy have provided much inspiration for her work. Traveling to and spending time in new places provides her the opportunity to relate to those settings in a very intimate way. As an artist, she takes extra time to study the details of the [...]
