Welcome! I am Denise Ogier, and I enjoy producing representational drawings and paintings.  I’m based in Aliso Viejo, California, but I was born in Portland, Oregon. I received a BS in Finance from Portland State University in 1997 and after choosing to consult part-time after my daughter was born, I started formally studying art in 2005.  I received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Drawing and Painting from Laguna College of Art + Design in 2018 and plan to continue my art education indefinitely. 
I believe beauty matters and it is everywhere if you’re open to seeing it. You don’t have to seek it out, just be open to it.  I am inspired to create art that captures a moment in time with a sense of immediacy and spontaneity.  I find inspiration in the places I go and the things I see, and I try to capture the beauty of simple, everyday things. As a literal thinker, I prefer representational art – I want to see a noun, a person, place, or thing, as opposed to an abstract concept. I would like the viewer to see and enjoy my art, but not be overly concerned with a deep meaning behind it.
I am open to the moment and do not let preconceived ideas get in my way.  All media are equally new and old to me, preventing biases about what I can and cannot do with my art.  I enjoy working in graphite, charcoal, pastel, ink and silverpoint in addition to painting in oil, acrylic and watercolor, from life, plein air and from photographic references.  I am not afraid to use digital tools to manipulate images to help me “see” what I want to produce.  I’ve appreciated every media I’ve been exposed to, so I will keep trying to find more.  A day when I [...]
