Deborah Jamail is a native of San Antonio Texas. Her travels and past home bases have influenced her imagination and love of art. From the beauty of historical San Antonio with its Spanish missions and Mexican influences, to years going to school in Mexico City studying art history, onto being a journalist in New York City, she has been exposed to world renowned museums, galleries and more than a few hidden collections. In 1997 she decided journalism had run its course and she was ready for a new avocation. A “180” from a desk and computer. Her love of art, color, antiques,  furniture and design led her to decorative painting. During several years of studying with highly regarded faux finishing schools she learned secrets of the trade involving historically-based painted furniture finishes, gilding and plastering. Using a towel to create permanent artistic finishes on walls and ceilings, in addition to sumptuous painted finishes on furniture, took her on a 15 year journey into the decorative arts. Her furniture pieces have been sold throughout the United States and she has done restoration work at several local historical locations. In 2019 she traded her knife
-edged trowel and scaffolding for palette knives and a studio where she is now creating art on canvas and panels.. Her previous work with trowels is evident in her thick layering of paint, sgraffito surfaces and color. Extensive travel to China stirred a passion for classic blue and white porcelain which is translated into abstract, more modern takes on this traditional favorite of designers and porcelain collectors. Abstracts are another outlet for her love of color combining and technique. Mostly self- taught, Deborah has definitely turned what has been stored in her mind’s eye into contemporary takes on traditional designs.
