Deanna Skokan is a retired medical transcriptionist who owned TechniMed Transcriptions for 17 years.  She has lived in the Des Moines area since 1990 but was formerly from Council Bluffs, Iowa.  She has always loved to paint, but until 2014 it was only on the walls of her house.  As her children left for college, she decided to move her paintbrush from drywall to canvas.  After sharing her first painting with family and friends, she was encouraged to continue along this path.  Little did she know God had given her a special talent of painting.
When she's not busy pushing paint around a canvas, Deanna volunteers at the West Des Moines Public Library, where she received her first break into the art world with a solo exhibition in April 2016.  She has since had numerous paintings exhibited at the West Des Moines Library, Lutheran Church of Hope Art Gallery, Iowa State Fair and Geisler-Penquite Gift Shop at The Centre for Arts and Artists. Deanna has also been named one of Dickinson Law Firm’s Artists for 2020 and 2021. Today she continues entering many local, regional, national and international juried events.
Deanna is the current membership chair of Iowa Artists, a nonprofit organization, where she strives to connect artists and art centers in the Midwest area through this position. She also teaches at Lutheran Church of Hope and helps paint their large church sets. In her spare time, she mentors young artists and encourages other artists to develop their painting skills.
Her goal is to bring the beauty of the world God created to the eyes of others.  Every day she challenges herself to paint, explore the Midwest with her camera looking for compositions to paint, or studies art techniques with online classes.  She is fully devoted to pushing herself out of her comfort zone [...]
