Darya Vassina, Associate member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and member of the Dane County Plein Air Painters (DCPAP).
I was born in Moscow, Russia and felt artistically inclined since childhood. However, only a few years ago, as a stay-at-home mother, I got a chance to devote a substantial amount of time to painting. Largely self-taught, I attended art classes offered by UW-Madison extension program, Attwood Atelier at Winnebago Studios, Madison, and national Plein Air Painting Conventions. I took workshops with artists Ned Mueller, Ulrich Gleiter, and Antonin Passemard. My love for painting in natural light, outdoors or en plein air determines the choice of subjects and the medium -- oil paintings of land- and seascapes, as well as still lifes and florals done outdoors or in my studio with natural light. Love of nature and desire to attempt to capture on canvas not just the visual semblance but the overall experience derived from all senses is what motivates me in my work.
