Photo of Dana Barunas

Born in Germany to Lithuanian parents, Dana grew up in the Boston area. She earned a BFA degree in Graphic Design, at Massachusetts College of Art. After graduation she went to Europe, learned German and lived in Munich for 13 years. Traveling throughout Europe, and visiting museums there, influenced her artistic values and appreciation of nature. Upon returning to the US to live, she worked sporadically in watercolor, but mainly focused on her graphic design work, eventually working almost entirely on computer. In the fall of 2009, she discovered pastels. It was love at first stroke! Dana works  in her studio, from photos. She prefers landscape painting and is especially drawn to waterscapes showing the reflections and the movement of water. She continues to enjoy traveling to the West Coast, Europe and lately, Peru, finding many subjects for her pastels there. She is an active member of several art associations around Boston, including Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, South Shore Art Association (Gallery Artist) and North River Art Society. Dana participates in, and has accumulated numerous awards at local shows, including the prestigious Duxbury Regional Winter Art Show and has been juried into the PPSCC national show, For Pastels Only, as well as to It's Pastel!, the Pastel Society of New Hampshire regional show, most years. Recently her work was accepted into the Copley Society Regional Pastel Show in Boston.Dana enjoys attending classes with some of the many accomplished pastel painters south of Boston and workshops with visiting pastel greats. Each instructor brings new insights.
