Raised in a rural setting in southeastern Idaho, Craig began his formal training in art by attending and graduating from BYU Idaho. His artistic ability was honed in the corporate world where he worked in illustration and as a graphic artist for a national wedding invitation and personalized stationary company. An expansive diet franchise corporation noticed his talent where Craig was made senior artist and then assistant art director.Wanting to improve his artistic ability and expression lead him to relocate with his wife and four young children to San Francisco. The Academy of Art University had gained its designation as one of the finest art schools on the west coast and Craig seized the opportunity to study there in 1984. While in pursuit of his BFA degree, Craig’s emerging style and talent were tapped by Oates Studios, where he did free-lance illustration for clients such as Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. Numerous portrait commissions instilled in Craig the desire to pursue fine art painting full-time.After graduating, Craig moved his young family back to Idaho to enjoy the slower pace of life and the environment in which he preferred to raise his children. In spite of a difficult art market in rural Idaho he managed to continue to paint full-time and was invited to show at the Charlie Russell Museum Auction and show in Great Falls, Montana in 1990 and 1991. Craig became a juried member of the Oil Painters of America in 2008.Eventually spending 14 years in Phoenix, Arizona where his art community involvement included teaching at the Shemer Art Center, Brio Fine Art Center and the renowned Scottsdale Artist’s School, Craig and his wife, Heidi, longed to return to their roots in the northwest.
