Artist Colin Flynn

An example of fine art by Colin Flynn

Photo of Colin Flynn

Like most Artists, Colin loved to  draw and paint from an early age.   Of course, horses were a major childhood subject.  Now, however, Colin paints whatever interests him from landscape painting to seascapes to still-life, and representational painting is his style.
Colin took art courses at The School of Art at The Art Institute of Chicago , but their teaching, at that time, focused on abstract art to the virtual exclusion of representational art.  At the end of the 1st semester, Colin left that school to find representational instruction elsewhere. After receiving his B.A. from the University of Michigan,  he formed a design/build construction company in Colorado that helped satisfy his need to create, and his buildings are located through the Southwest from Texas to Wyoming and Colorado to California. During this time, Colin continued to draw and paint the stunning landscapes of the mountain west, adopting Jay Moore, Clyde Aspevig, and Richard Schmid as his heroes.
Since 2007, Colin has painted full-time and has taken workshops and instruction from a number of nationally known contemporary artists. He has exhibited regionally in solo gallery shows and group art shows, and has been selected for the FAV 15 in the BoldBrush Painting Competition four times.  His painting " IRIS 1 " was selected for the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society 2019 Small Painting Exhibition in Fredericksburg, Texas, and his paintings are in numerous private collections throughout the United States
In 2004, Colin moved back to the Upper Midwest from Colorado. Though he misses the mountains and the ability to look in every direction to see a scene worthy of paint, he now wants to express the beauty of the landscape and the people who are influenced and impacted by the Great Lakes Region.
