Artist Cinda Serafin

An example of fine art by Cinda Serafin

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. My mom was an artist and provided my sister and I with art supplies from a very early age. I especially love painting anything connected to the outdoors and nature. It gives me an excuse to be outside and call it work! My husband and I both love hiking, camping, scuba diving, mountain biking, gardening, and being with our family. We are also volunteer firefighters in our rural community. In between all that, I try to fit in some painting time.
My preferred medium is watercolor. I enjoy painting small landscapes or florals on location, but most of my larger paintings are done in the studio. I start by taking lots of photos for ideas and lighting. Then I do a rather detailed drawing before I start painting. I usually work on larger paintings for several weeks. My favorite subjects are birds, butterflies, and big cats.
I do not have any formal art training. I have a huge library of art books that I have read over the years. This has helped me develop my own unique style. I am still learning something new with each painting, so I never get bored! Nature is always my inspiration. So, as long as I can get out to enjoy it, I should never run out of ideas.
