Artist Biography
Christine discovered her love for art as a child growing up in Maryland. When she was a senior in high school, she was accepted into a prestigious intensive study of portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. She went on to major in art at Arizona State University and met her husband while living in Arizona.
After her marriage, Christine and her husband moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she lived for 35 years and raised her family while teaching painting and sharpening her own skills. She had several opportunities to paint the beautiful landscape of the Last Frontier, while developing her style. Most of Fortner’s subjects are of plant life. Whether painting still life or landscape, she arranges the shapes to support her strong compositions.
Christine’s paintings have been published in several books on watercolor and acrylic. The most recent one being, ‘AcrylicWorks 3’, published in 2016 by Northlight Books. She is also an artist representative for M. Graham & Co paint products.  In 2019 she was awarded Honorable Mention in the International Society of Acrylic Painters Annual Exhibition. Currently she is a Signature Member of the Alaska Watercolor Society and the International Society of Acrylic Painters, as well as belonging to a number of local arts organizations including the Idaho Watercolor Society and Gallery 12.
Christine and her husband now live in Idaho Falls. When she is not painting her interpretations of nature, she can often be found playing with her grandchildren.
