Christina Olds was born in New York City in 1952 and currently lives in Boise, ID. She graduated from Vassar College with a BA in English/Creative Writing and grew up mostly in England and Washington D.C., the child of a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and 1940's movie star. Early years were filled with travel through Europe and America, with winters spent skiing in Sun Valley, ID and summers on a family friend's ranch in Jackson Hole, WY. Wilderness adventures and an early love for horses fueled childhood drawings and a lifelong passion for nature. Stretched between strict academic years in private girls' schools, life on air force bases, music lessons, jumping competitions, class trips to art museums, theaters, ballet and symphony performances in busy cities, Christina cherished the freedom and solace found during summer retreats to Wyoming. Wilderness became her refuge; horses her escape and art her self-expression. She began skiing at age six and fly-fishing at age seven, feeling more at home outside alone than in a room full of people. Art was never a trained skill or a serious pursuit. It was more like a momentary escape into happiness when no rules had to be followed. Attempts to focus on art through adulthood were interrupted by decades of big city jobs, marriage, motherhood and care for aging parents. Throughout those years, whenever possible, she enjoyed community life-drawing classes, sketching outdoors, a six-week oil painting class at San Francisco Art Institute and joining local art exhibitions. There was always a way to set up a small drawing table in various houses but no way to pursue art continuously...until now.
