Charles Schadel, a Davenport, IA native, uses vibrant oils to express a warm, romantic mood in his paintings. The beauty and variety of nature inspires his artistic vision which he desires to share . His early artistic interests were manifested by his love of modeling, painting murals, and sculpting mountain landscapes in miniature.
He worked as a product line manager in the water treatment industry and created his own water treatment product manufacturing company, Caress Inc, in 1975. During this time he became aware that his greatest satisfaction  came from  the creative aspects of the work,
such as developing and designing products, literature and advertising materials. Business travel in the United States, Europe and the Middle East stimulated his interest in other landscapes and cultures. Eventually, in 1986, he honored his creative impulses and began to teach himself to paint. The completion of his first painting produced such a feeling of excitement and freedom that he knew painting would become his primary interest.
After selling his business, in 1990 he set out to make art his full time career. Even though he attended a local college studying drawing, design, sculpture and art history, the greater part of his training came from workshops with professional artists and master  Oil Painters Of America  artists , Ken Backus, George Strickland, and Albert Handel to mention a few.
Charles painting style can be describe as Romantic Impressionism influenced mainly by Renoir, Sargent and Kevin Macpherson. Currently he is represented by The Courtyard Gallery in New Buffalo, MI. and Art On The Town Gallery in Pentwater, MI. he has also shown for the past 26 years in juried art shows throughout the Midwest. He is a member of Oil Painters Of America and Grand Valley Artists and several plein air groups in West Michigan.
