Carol’s art is inspired by personal experiences, music, cultural heritage and current events.  Her paintings are mixed media – watercolor or acrylic with fabric and/or paper collage. The fabric is reminiscent of her time as a seamstress.
She has participated in open, solo and juried group exhibits.  Her work is included in private and corporate collections.  She has received artist grants, commissions and awards for her photography and her watercolor and acrylic paintings.  She had the honor of participating in the Gullah Culture exhibit, sponsored by the US State Department’s Art in Embassies program.  Artwork is borrowed from American artists and placed in the residence of American ambassadors.  Carol’s artwork was on display for one year in the home of Ambassador Christopher McMullen in Luanda Angola, Africa.
Carol has a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Southern University.  She has held positions from computer trainee to manager of large computer systems.  She was profoundly affected by her 1990 trip to Dakar Senegal in West Africa.  After returning home she began to redirect her energies toward a vocation that is in sync with her interests and natural abilities.   While employed at The College of Charleston as a Programmer Analyst, she earned a BA in Studio Arts from the college.  She was born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, but now lives in DeSoto most recent paintings were inspired by spirituals, New Orleans jazz and the Gullah/Geechee culture of South Carolina.  The paintings are mixed media – acrylic with fabric and/or paper collage. 
Some of the fabric was cut from pieces of batik or salvaged from my grandmother’s old purse. The backgrounds of most of these paintings have either abstract shapes, splattered paint or texture created from stamps that I hand-carved.
