Artist Carl Stoveland

An example of fine art by Carl Stoveland

Photo of Carl Stoveland

I have been an artist my whole life.  When I was a kid my dad worked at a photo lab in NYC making dye transfer prints for museums and ad agencies and my mom was doing landscape painting.  My first memories are watching the magic in my dad's darkroom or watching my mom painting in her studio in our basement. I have been working as a photographer or in the photos industry since high school.  To see my photo website you can find it at carlstovelandphotography.com.  I have been a painter since 2001 working in watercolors.  I have over the last year added acrylics to may repertoire.  This site will be a collection of watercolor, walnut ink and acrylic painting.
In September of 2020 I was an artist in residence at Dry Tortugas National Park.  It was an amazing experience and I plan to do more residencies in the future.  My paintings are strongly influenced by my photography.  I like to paint places I have traveled to and photographed. As I get more comfortable with acrylics my work is starting to wander into more abstract territory.  please join me on this evolving journey of my art life.  I will be hosting a blog here as well as starting a companion podcast in the near future.
Keep Makin' Art!
