An example of fine art by Calgary Sketch Club

Photo of Calgary Sketch Club

Calgary has few homegrown associations that can claim to be over one hundred years old. The Calgary Sketch Club is one. Surprised? Its origins trace back to 1909 when six Calgary citizens formed a club to sketch, paint and exhibit their art works. The non-profit organization has survived and grown through two world wars and several name changes. It is comprised of approximately one hundred enthusiastic artists who eagerly follow their dream of artistic excellence. The Calgary Sketch Club offers prospective new members the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of these artists as they join them in their pursuit of artistic growth and knowledge of art.
To facilitate artistic excellence the club offers workshops, and two week long outdoor painting camps held in the Spring and Fall. The painting camps provide the opportunity for "plein air" painting in scenic locations in Alberta. Meetings; held weekly, include demos in various mediums, live painting sessions, critiques of paintings and information sessions. As well, several exhibitions and sales of members’ work are held annually.
The Calgary Sketch Club is supported by the Alberta Foundation for Art
