Biography


Bud Pawless is known for his colorful, bold paintings and his sculptures depicting the lifestyle of the working cowboy and subject matter related to the great American West.
 
Bud began specializing in his portrayals of the West more than forty years ago and has worked diligently at honing his craft with every opportunity that he could muster.  In 2010, after 43 years in banking and finance Bud retired with last 20 years with First State Bank in Texas as Branch President.  Pawless then became a full time working artist.  He now vigorously pursues his passion to capture his inspirations on canvas and in clay.
 
He now lives in southwestern Oklahoma near the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, on Medicine Creek.    
 
Bud was born in Long Beach, California and grew up with the music of the Beach Boys, rock n' roll, hot rods and surfing. He began his creative life as an artist while in high school at Buena Park High, by drawing hot rods. Bud worked car shows in and around southern California, air brushing hot rods on T-shirts and sweatshirts. 
 
Bud began his formal studies in art in 1961/1962 at the California Institute of Art, Laguna Beach, now named Laguna College of Art and Design.  He then moved to Oklahoma in 1963, where his parents had originated.  Pawless  while attending and graduating from  Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, also studied drawing, art history and the visual arts.  Also the University of Colorado Graduate School of Banking, Boulder, Colorado.  Pawless was also always involved in music and worked his way through college as a drummer in local bands - playing dances, clubs and local parties.
 
It was during a trip to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City in the early 70's, that Pawless became inspired and decided to dedicate his creativity to the art of the American West and it's cowboy heritage. His [...]
