Artist Brian Darcy

An example of fine art by Brian Darcy

Photo of Brian Darcy

As a young naturalist growing up in Southern Ontario, Brian Darcy was exposed to the diverse rural countryside that continues to inspire him to this day! Believing in the power of nature to evoke emotion he spends time observing and soaking up his environment , ready to portray that unique play of fleeting light on the landscape. "Dusk is such a favourite  time for me to portray as the diminishing, almost spiritual light heightens my senses as the landscape fades into the night". Small detailed studies have always been part of Brian's work and help him understand  the details for a  larger painting. From his earlier high realism, Brians work has evolved to a softer  interpretation of the rural landscape.
Born in Yorkshire England 1956 his love of the lush dales was instilled early and continues with annual painting trips, this year to the Lakes District. Moving to Canada when he was seven Brian has embraced the rural  landscape of Southern Ontario.  He studies  the many greens of nature and has a keen observation for  its subtle nuances.  Influences of Andrew Wyeth, George Innes, Raymond Ching and Alex Colville all seep into his fine paintings . Studies at Doon School of Fine art, Art Gallery of Burlington, Dundas Valley School of Art and Sheridan College completed his early  formal education. Using the finest pigments from around the world he now paints exclusively in oils on fine linen.
With awards including the Canadian Society of painters in Watercolour, International Art Magazine , his work hangs in private and corporate collections throughout Canada, United States and England . Prices $2,000 -$ 18,000 Cdn.  /  Member International Guild of Realism. / Collections including Toronto Dominion, Michael DeGroote ,Stesscrete Group, Attridge Transport, Domtar Canada, Dominion Trust, Art Gallery of Hamilton
