Artist Bonnie Johnson

An example of fine art by Bonnie Johnson

Photo of Bonnie Johnson

Following a professional career as an art director, illustrator and art teacher I am painting in oil and watercolor and using various printmaking techniques to combine traditional and non-traditional methods of producing art. I seek to eliminate the boundaries between printmaking, drawing, and painting so they are obscured or do not exist.
Certified as a botanical illustrator from the New York Botanical Gardens I find that nature inspires me to explore texture, color and attitude of landscapes and the plant life that surrounds us.

Botanical Series
This series is inspired by the landscape and flowers of botanical gardens in the US, Canada and Europe that I have personally visited.
An element of spontaneity and surprise, that reflects the gardenís ever changing textures and color schemes, is achieved with my silk aquatint printing technique that provides unique organic textures and color blends. The image is traditionally painted with an acrylic medium on a plate that is made from silk, traditionally inked, wiped and printed with an etching press.
 My Point of View Series

Sometimes its all in your own backyard. The ever changing scene from my deck brings a brief moment of color and atmosphere that lasts just a second and then is gone. My intention is to share these brief moments through various printmaking techniques and paintings. My exploration of the clouds, mists, colors and textures is ongoing.
