Photo of Betty Polasek

Betty is a native South Texan, born of Cherokee, Irish and German descent.  Her younger years included an extensive study of classical piano and she passed on that love to many of her students.  Painting since the early 90's, her mediums of choice include oils, watercolor and pastel.  Betty's paintings embrace a range of subjects from figure, still life, landscape and animals.  Some of her favorite subjects are Native Americans in everyday life, often combined with her love of horses.  Her Cherokee heritage has allowed her entry into prestigious Native American Art Shows, such as the Annual Trail of Tears Show at the Cherokee Heritage Museum in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where she has had the honor of winning several awards.  She takes pride in being a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation.  Betty has attended workshops with nationally known artists Ken Hosmer, Christopher Schink, Judy Betts and Don Andrews, to name a few.  Artists that have influenced her work include Daniel Gerhartz, Harley Brown, Howard Terpning and the Russian impressionist Nicholai Fechin.  She has served as past president of the Watercolor Society of South Texas and her award winning paintings have been part of numerous exhibitions.  She currently resides with her husband and their horses in northern Bee County.  Her work can be seen in galleries and at her home Stone Horse Studio.
