Artist Statement

Betty Newman has been living and painting on Marco Island since 1993. She previously lived in the outskirts of Chicago. A weekly train trip would take her to Chicago to take advantage of the art scholarship to the Chicago Art Institute. She is the past owner of The Artist's Gallery Marco Island and a founding member of The Artist Colony Marco Island. Her Gallery is now located within The Local Color Art Gallery in the Olde Shops of Marco in the historic district of Marco Island.
She is commissioned by local and international clients. Her heart paintings have traveled all over the world to lovers, surgeons, and heart recipients. She has donated many of her heart paintings to various charity organizations, including Harry Chapin Empty Bowls Food Bank and Alzheimer organizations.
Ten pieces of Betty's  contemporary art were featured in The Sea Glass model home at 1800 Menorca, Marco Island.
Her work has been on the cover of  Marco Island Review, Collier County Brochure and Swicft Institute Brochure in Naples and Empty Bowls Naples.
Marco Island Florist, Sea Bell Gallery in Maine, JW Marriott Marco Island and Long River Gallery in New Hampshire carry her work.
“An archaeologist may uncover treasures by removing layers of earth. She creates treasures by adding layer upon layer of color and texture, using trowels, brushes and hands. Betty incorporates her love of whimsy in many of her pieces.   Sometimes the different mediums crash and buckle; other times they blend and settle together like old friends."Each painting in progress has a heart and soul of its own.”
The child of the 70's who once painted flowers on her parents’ car and her body (yeah baby) now has collectors around the world. As an extension of her passion for graceful flow, she also teaches movement and fitness classes at Marco Island YMCA.
