An example of fine art by Barb Stainman

The poet Hafiz wrote, “Be kind to your sleeping heart. Take it out into the vast fields of Light
and let it breathe.”
This is what art feels like to me. To see it and to make it are intensely satisfying experiences.
I came to art later in life, studying in 2010 at the Denver Art Student League, taking courses composition, drawing, oil and acrylic painting, and collage. It was there that I began to focus on abstract art, whatever the medium.
In 2012 I joined the community of artists at the Boardinghouse Studios and Gallery in Denver, participating in their twice-yearly Open Studios events. (It was here that I learned that white wine is a safer option for open houses…) I also began designing mixed media greeting cards and continue to be represented by Juniper Sky Gallery in Ivins, Utah.
After attempting to make a felted cat cave for my cat in 2012 I became hooked on wet felting and all things wool and alpaca. I continue to focus on fiber, most recently by learning to spin wool.
Creative experimentation is really what it's all about for me. Lately these experiments have gone from the studio to my camera and Photoshop. You can see the outcome in the photography collection on this site.
Although I’m from Maine originally, I live in Denver with my husband after having lived throughout the U.S. and overseas courtesy of the Air Force. I went to high school and college in Colorado, and spent 10 years in Seattle. In 2005 I cajoled my husband into returning to Colorado where the sun shines.
I hope you enjoy looking at my art as much as I enjoy making it.
