Artist Barbara Van Rooyan

An example of fine art by Barbara Van Rooyan

Most of the art that I create comes from a voice within me that I cannot describe with words. I create art to give that voice a life. People often ask if I have an idea of what I am going to paint before I begin. It's a common and understandable question for abstract artists.  The answer, for me, is sometime yes and sometimes no. There is that voice that speaks to me, but sometimes I only hear it once I have begun. Before I became a painter I worked with textiles. I loved the textures and the dyes. My contemporary painting reflects this love with lots of texture and bright hues. The sometimes sculptural effect of my paintings begs the viewer to touch as well as see and therefore delights more than one sense. How viewers see my art opens new vistas for me; that is a feeling of freedom and spirituality that I only feel through my artwork and which I wish to share with others.Below I would like to share with you some of my shows, exhibitions and galleries.
