Biography
I was born in the “other state”, New Jersey. I knew I always wanted to be an artist. My father was a recognized fine artist and my aunt an award winning pastelist. When I moved to California I worked as a graphic artist for many years which included working in the production department and running a printing press. Eventually I started drawing pen and ink illustrations of houses for the Real Estate companies. Drawing was always a favorite form of art for me and I decided to try painting as an added skill and this opened a whole new world for me.
My interests turned into painting plein air. I painted landscapes for many years until I decided to try something different. I started studying figure painting to perfect my artistic abilities and enrolled at the Academy of Art. I graduated in 2009 with a MFA. During the course of my studies I studied under the guidance of Dean Larson who has become my mentor and friend. I still paint many landscapes and figures. Switching between both subjects adds variety, which keeps my paintings fresh and unique. I also enjoy sketching and when traveling I usually fill a sketch book full of drawings. My picture, below, shows me capturing the beauty of Alaska's majestic mountains.
