Artist Barbara Davidson

An example of fine art by Barbara Davidson

Photo of Barbara Davidson

Barbara Davidson has loved painting and drawing for as long as she can remember.    Encouraged by her parents, she studied privately, both watercolor and oil painting, and took as many art classes as possible in school.    After a long career in higher education, she returned to painting both en plein air and in the studio.  Whether  painting outside or in the studio, creating a painting that provides an emotional response is the goal.   Primarily a Southern California landscape painter, Barbara has also painted in France, Italy,  and many beautiful spots in the United States.
Barbara is inspired by the French Impressionists, especially Monet; the Italian Macchiaioli,  the Early California Impressionists, and the work of contemporary plein air and studio painters.  She continues to study regularly with artist Robin Hall, and has taken workshops with nationally known painters including John Cosby, Debra Huse,  Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Greg La Rock, Elizabeth Tolley, Gavin Brooks,  Kathleen Dunphy and Lori Putnam.
Barbara exhibits in juried shows sponsored by the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association and the Lagna Beach Plein Air Painters Association.  She has exhibited in many "6 Inch Squared" national shows at Randy Higbee Gallery, at the California Art Club juried shows, the Debra Huse Gallery, the Chemers Gallery and the Bennington Center for the Arts in Bennington, Vermont.  Her work has won awards and is in private collections. She is a member of the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association, and the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painters Association.
