Photo of Barbara Burk

BARBARA BURK has been painting portraits in oil and pastel since 1972. Born and raised in New Orleans, she has a BA from Newcomb College. Basically self-taught, Burk has studied with many world- renowned portrait artists. Accomplished in both oil and pastel, Burk paints a wide range of subjects from small children to busy professionals. One of her biggest accomplishments is that she has painted portraits of over 50 judges for various courts. Recently, because of her love of animals, she has started painting portraits of pets.  Burk is a full signature member of the Pastel Society of America, past-President of the Degas Pastel Society and a founding member of the Portrait Society of America.  Her portraits have been featured in several publications and have won numerous awards.
Barbara has been interested in drawing and painting the human figure since early childhood. Constantly fascinated by how facial expression can be an insight into mood and character, she has brought the training and knowledge she has acquired into her portraits and figure studies.
