Biography


Anthony Butera is a painter and watercolorist.  He has been painting scenes of Staten Island and New York City for over 30 years.  The subjects he paints are primarily in architecture and nature. His work may be seen as documentary and archival in scope.  He wants to preserve what he paints, in a nostalgic way.  His style is representational and sometimes his work has an impressionistic quality.
 
Anthony has degrees from Wagner College and Richmond College, Staten Island, New York.  He has degrees in Sociology and Fine Art.
 
Anthony's work has been exhibited on Staten Island at the Red Carpet Gallery and Gallery 6. Anthony had a solo exhibit at Art at  the J Gallery, Alan Bernikow JCC in 2010.  He has also shown his work at Mauro Gallery ("Plein Air Paintings"), The Staten Island Museum ("Views of Stapleton-the Watercolors of Anthony Butera"), the Art Lab, Kade Gallery (Wagner College) and the Staten Island Botanical Garden.  He has exhibited his work in the "Art by the Ferry" Festival.
 
Manhattan venues  include Michael Ingbar Gallery, Ward-Nasse Gallery, the Salmagundi Club, Associated Americal Artists and the Barnes and Noble Cafe Gallery. Anthony's fine art is owned by many corporations. Some of them are Diamond Match Corp., First Bank of Boston, Pepsico Corp., Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, Staten Island Savings Bank and St. Vincent's Medical Center, Staten Islalnd, New York.
 
Anthony Butera was a Council of the Arts for Staten Island grant winner in 2003 for his oil paintings of Manhattan storefronts. He has completed numerous commissions of watercolors of clients' homes. His work is represented by Bridgeman Art Library and he is also represented by Superstock, Inc., a stock photo agency.
