Ann Jagielski Crostic is an award winning landscape artist from Baltimore, Maryland. Her paintings are completed “Plein Air” (on location) in one sitting using oil paint on linen panels.
Ann’s formal art education began in her early teens with instruction in the methods of the Old Masters. Painting began with a tonal sketch on panels prepared with rabbit skin glue and white lead paint. Additional layers of paint were added in the studio once the prior layer dried; final steps included glazing and adding fine details.
Accepted into the Maryland Institute College of Art Ann pursued a degree in Drawing, concentrating on drawing the figure and landscape and was awarded a BFA in Drawing cum laude. In the years that followed, Ann married and raised a family, volunteered as an art teacher assistant and produced backdrops for the Recreation Council performances.
In 2001 Ann returned to school to sharpen her skills with courses through Towson University and the Continuing Education program at Maryland Institute College of Art. Through MICA Ann was introduced to Plein Air. The Alla Prima (wet into wet) painting technique used was very different than the classical approach she knew. It was exciting and challenging; additional workshops in Plein Air painting followed.
Since 2010 Ann's primary focus has been painting landscapes Plein Air. She's been selected to participate in Plein Air competitions and exhibits in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maine and Virginia and a member of the Mid- Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. Ann enjoys the challenge of a rural landscape as well as an urban setting as “Every place has a story; every painting has a lesson to be learned.”
