Andy Williams was born in Niagara Falls Ontario and moved with his family to California as a teenager.   He soon started surfing and moved to Santa Cruz California.  His first career was making and selling surfboards in Santa Cruz and Hawaii.
After his surfboard career Andy started painting in watercolor in the 1970's.  He found recognition almost immediatly, winning an award at the Richard Yip annual student exhibition in San Francisco.  
In the next few years Andy studied painting and drawing at Cabrillo College in Aptos California and then at San Jose State University where he earned a Masters degree in studio Art in 1985.  After graduation Andy's work was juried into the  Crocker Museum's Centenial exhibition and subsequently won the First Award at the Santa Cruz Art League's Annual Statewide Exhibition.  During this time Andy worked at several galleries and art organizations in Santa Cruz and Carmel California.
 Since 2004 Andy has concentrated on painting in the  California realist style.  During that time he has studied with noted California painters such as William Rushton,Tim Horn, Ray Roberts, Ken Auster, John Budicin and Randal Sexton.  In 2008 he was among a small group of artists selected to paint at Carmel's  Tor House, the Santa Lucia Ranch Preserve, and the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance.
Andy is a signature member of the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association and is the 2012 President of the Carmel Art Association.  He has been represented in many galleries throughout California including the Himovitz/Solomon Gallery in Sacramento, The Tager Gallery in Santa Cruz and the Zantman Gallery in Carmel.  He is currently represented by the Carmel Art Association in Carmel, and The Red Pear in Carmel Valley Village.
