Artist Allan Baker

An example of fine art by Allan Baker

Photo of Allan Baker

I've been drawing my whole life, my father was an artist and technical illustrator then a sign painter. I've been in the sign business since '80 I have also worked as a staff artist for a California newspaper(Chula Vista star news)in early '80 and did technical illustrations part time from '99 to '04. You can see some of my published works in the '01 Jan, Mar and May issues of Heavy Metal magazine. I am self taught, the mediums I work mostly with are India ink, pencil, colored pencil, acrylic paint, ballpoint pens and felt pens.
Some of my early influences are Gilbert Sheldon, Roger Dean, Ed Roth, Dali, Disney, Pushead, Giger, Peter Max and Rick Griffin. I discovered Yves Tanguy in a surrealist book in '97 and found Juxtapoz magazine in '99. I started a series of pop culture/surreal style pictures in '95 (it's a large body of work) that I'm still working on. A lot of people have told me my art is very original, fun and whimsical.
