I have been creating art for the last 15 years.  I started with mixed media and acrylic art.  My outlet has been a cafe in Whangarei, NZ. I am self taught, reading extensively through magazines and books as well as online. 
I have held two private exhibitions.  Both for charity - one for Hagar,  an organisation that rescues people from slavery.  Also one for an Indian mission. Both were very successful, and sold most paintings.
I won a Northland, New Zealand, Art competition in 2014.  This was for mixed media. I do not enter many competitions so this was an honour for me. 
My latest paintings have been sourced from my tour of Europe last year. I did some sketching and painting while there. Most of the paintings are from the photos I took while touring. They are acrylic on gessoed primed board.  I like the watercolour effects that Golden Hi Flow acrylics give me. I also add ink and coloured pencil to some paintings. This is a new way of painting for me, in the past I have painted acrylic on canvas.
My other paintings are mostly flowers or natural scenes of New Zealand. I love to be outside. We live on a farm next to the ocean, so we are very fortunate to have beautiful surroundings. My wife and I are both vets so the farm is a great break away from our busy practice. Painting is definitely my favourite way of escaping work pressures, especially with a glass of our homemade wine. 
We are both Christians and I have done some “christian” art. Trying to show with symbols something that is important to me, or I feel God is prompting me about. This is not the majority of what I do. I feel God in our natural surroundings and try to express this [...]
