I create symbolic narratives based on my own experiences through the medium of oil paint. Working within the realm of contemporary symbolism, I pair the figure with pattern and color. I’m inspired by the Symbolist and Art Nouveau art movements, as well as the warmth and color of Puerto Rico – my birthplace. I paint female figures because they represent different facets of who I am. They are the elements of my personality that are hidden beneath the surface – strength, resilience, the power and grace of femininity. Currently, I’m creating work based on the idea of rebirth and identity – what does it mean to let go of who you were before? What does reinvention look like? Through the combination of these pictorial elements and ideas, I create a visual narrative that provides insight into the nature of femininity and transformation.
