Texas is a state which is known world-wide.  It offers a plethora of opportunities for artists. The natural and man-made bounties are important to me for  sharing the history and beauty of the land.


The natural world is  enormously important to me and is reflected in my art in deliberate and perhaps, even unconscious ways.  Upon reflection, I began to realize that the beauty and bounty of nature has been part of my life from the beginning.
I grew up in La Porte, Texas with my parents and  three brothers while living next door to my grandparents.  My grandmother was an avid gardener who  would often call my mother and me over to enjoy the beauty in her yard.   Plants were often shared, the same as conversation, coffee and time.  My mother, having a large family, decided to take gardening to the next level and plowed up the surrounding pastures to put in vegetable gardens.  That kept all of us kids very busy .   I learned about the planting stages, how the moon affects the crop and prorogation.  I learned about hard work and the beauty and bountiful gifts from nature.    I was not exposed to art, except for coloring books.     I was finally  able  to take art classes in high school.  I took every class I could.  I struggled with academics , but I always felt successful and accomplished  in art.    Art empowered me to know that I could achieve success which finally carried over to my academics.   In 1969,   I married and put my career on hold.  I entered the United States Air Force in 1974 and had my first child while stationed in Spain.  I heard of the Prado Museum in Madrid and knew I had to visit the wonderful art.  I stood stunned, in total amazement at the Rubens, Van Gogh, Cervantes, and many more.    After my service had ended,  I attended  the University of Houston-Clear Lake and, in 1987, I  received a Bachelor of Science degree .
