 I took a pretty serious hiatus from doing any art for almost twenty years because when I was a young man it seemed to me that digital art programs were making artists obsolete. I wasn’t making enough progress to best the computer art programs I was comparing my work against. I started back to draw again at age 37. It all started flowing like a crack in a dam and hasn't stopped yet. My opinion hasn't changed about digital art, and I have an even stronger loathing about AI art, but I realize that this is what I like doing regardless of the competition. I was lucky and found a retired art teacher who taught me to paint for five years. Unfortunately I am partially color blind. Many People say that my images pop with color this is the result of my not being able to see them until they get to that point, so I try to see this as an advantage that makes my work unique. My paintings are usually a reflection of my current life or life I remember. The Fantasy paintings are always symbolic for me in some personal way. 
I often do paintings of the things I see everyday. I think there is an authenticity about painting the place where I live that can not be reproduced by even the most profound imagination. I feel as if I am creating a time capsule and working as a documentarian. I am heavily influenced by Edward Hopper who I think did these things perfectly. 

I read a quote by Pablo Picasso that really resonated with me.
      "My mother said to me, 'If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.' Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso."
