Biography

Susan is a contemporary impressionistic painter who lives and works in High Point, North Carolina. She began painting on July 14, 2015, exactly one year, to the day, after her daughter’s death. Searching for something, anything, that would bring some happiness back into her life, Susan turned to the arts. As a former dancer and lover of musical theatre, Susan knew that creative expression and artistic endeavors have the power to heal and lift your spirits. So she signed up for her first painting workshop with Helen Farson, an accomplished artist and well known teacher in Greensboro, North Carolina. Helen’s enthusiasm for life and her “quest for joy” through painting was such an inspiration to Susan that she decided to set out on her own journey as an artist.
Starting later in life, Susan knew that she should learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible, from as many different teachers as possible. She has studied with nationally recognized artists Nancy Franke, Connie Winters, Alice Williams, Trisha Adams, Louis Escobedo, and Heather Sink.

Working primarily in oils, Susan enjoys painting from life. Her paintings are inspired by her travels to the beach, to the mountains, to Europe, or to her own backyard. She loves to paint children playing on the beach, a glorious sunrise, colorful interiors, a well designed still life, and even an occasional abstraction.

Susan says, “I have become passionate about seeing and recording the beauty of my surroundings. Painting brings me joy; it allows me to play with all the luscious colors on my palette. In painting, as in life, you cannot truly appreciate the light without experiencing the dark.”
