The Artist Says:

"When I consider what it means to me to be able to put what I see down on canvas, I remember what it was like for me the first time I picked up a paintbrush, and the joy I felt in being able to translate ono the blank surface, how I see it in my mind.

Once I was able to find the resources that enabled me to master some basic techniques and concepts of oil painting, I felt free to pursue my own style and interpretation. I truly believe that an integral part of being able to express someone's own vision, is the ability to put down their own version on canvas…or by using some other type of artistic expression.

My technique is a combination of realism and impressionism, with a focus on drawing out the colors, textures, and the form, to enhance the natural beauty of the subject. I consider it a true honor to be trusted with re-creating someone's special memory on canvas. One that will hopefully make them feel as though you are seeing it just as they remember it when the photo was taken, or as if they are right there in that place at that moment, experiencing it in person for themselves."

Biography

"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls."
- Pablo Picasso

Despite having a strong interest in art when I was young, I did not pursue a career in art until I was in my late 20’s…when I had the opportunity to have my acrylic paintings & painted furniture available for sale, in what was my then husband’s family antique business... located along the Route 6A on Cape Cod (aka 'Antiques Alley'). I decided to try to paint with oils, after seeing some examples of some antique marine oil paintings that were hanging in our shop, and I tried to replicate the style of schooners and frigates using my own interpretation of the ship's sails and hulls in photos...to which I would add my own ocean and sky backgrounds. When I was happy with the results, I began offering them for sale as reproductions in the antique shop, as well as at auction houses on Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard.
Once I acquired the basics, taking an introduction to oil painting at the Cape Cod Conservatory, it quickly became my favorite medium. I loved the freedom that oils allowed, because of the longer drying time that they afforded me.  I found that this gave me the ability to mix colors much better than I could with acrylic paints...and also the chance to 'play' and experiment more with color. After painting a number of renderings of some 19th-Century Sailing Vessels using oils, I decided that I wanted to try doing portraits as well as other subjects...since living on Cape Cod, there was so much inspiration to be found right around me. With expanding the scope of my work to include painting portraits, and especially with the addition of commissioned work, I felt as if [...]
