About me:
I dreamed of doing many things as a child, but by the time I entered college, I'd at least dropped thoughts of becoming a ballet dancer or a singer (wise choices on my part). Still, I was torn between journalism, art, and biology, and I dabbled for a while with some pretty dreadful poetry. Journalism definitely lost out, and so did biology for a while as I majored in studio art. So began the circle. However, at graduation, I knew I didn't have the confidence or the drive to become a full-time artist. After a couple of years and a couple of uninspiring jobs, I was back in school, doing post-graduate work in biology. I spent the next few decades happily involved with family, kids, medicine, and teaching. During those years, I visited art galleries whenever possible and did a bit of my own work, but art hadn't yet become a priority.
Still, that bug, that urge to paint, kept gnawing at me and growing ever greater. I returned to school yet again to complete my MFA, but became more and more frustrated with little time to paint between other commitments. Finally, I'm at the point where doing my own art is a priority. The line of the circle has returned to art. I have been blessed so that I can get up each morning and know that I will make time to draw, paint, do something related to my art each and every day. I'm just as blessed with my 4-generation family, friends, many interests, and past careers. In the song, Circle of Life, Tim Rice wrote, "From the day we arrive on the planet, and blinking, step into the sun, there's more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done."
