The Artist Says:

Meditation is an important component of my painting technique and teaching perspective. Before any art is created in the studio, we sit for a moment, breathe, and center ourselves, so that we are fully present to the creative process.

I think being in the studio is like taking a vacation from the rest of life. Here we get to be ourselves and express ourselves without judgment or meeting anyone else’s expectations. It’s a joy to be here.

After years of research and meditation, I created this definition for contemplative art:  the product of artistic expression arising out of the pure joy of creating, grounded in a connection to the “radiance and perfection” of spirit known only through one’s experience of being fully human.

How I move from inspiration to final creation is a mystery to me.  To say it just happens is an understatement.  The process evolves from inspiration through perspiration to realization. With each painting, I paint the extraordinary aspects of everyday existence. Like the experience of contemplation, art is infinite and one never reaches the end. That is why I paint!

Other Artists Say:

“The paintings sometimes have the look of a Rothko color field painting. Suzanne’s goal is not to depict a scene. It’s to depict her contemplation of a scene.” Quentin Young, Arts Editor, Longmont Times-Call Newspaper
