Envy by artist Patrick Nevins

(Oil on Panel)

Artist Patrick Nevins offered some insight into his thought process as a painter: "I have never described myself as an 'artist', I'm just somebody who loves to paint. I love everything about it; the way a brush feels in my hand, how the oils smell on a wood panel, the ability to manipulate paint and make it take shape. Every piece of artwork I produce truly is a labor of love. I feel like I grow as an 'artist' with each new piece."

Art critic Brian Sherwin, Editor of The Art Edge, commented on Patrick's paintings. Sherwin said, "Artist Patrick Nevins clearly has passion for traditional painting techniques... yet his work is marked by a contemporary edge that gives teeth to his imagination upon canvas. The work I viewed is strengthened by a surreal quality that beckons viewers to consider the seen and the unseen. It is as if Patrick seeks to transport us to a visual realm of open, mysterious thought -- images that play upon our dreams... and our nightmares."

As always we must ask, Why? But of course, Americans and Academic artists never do. That would spoil the "fun". Art must have meaning and every work be justified. this is why French Modern art so surpassed other forms, if a piece had not read for being it is a failure.
Guess why this is? Entertainment for effetes who do not want to deal with life.
Useless.

Donald -- Can you elaborate? I'm not sure how this applies to Patrick's art... stress your point further and perhaps I can offer my thoughts in response.
