The Artist Says:

"I paint landscapes because I'm drawn to moments that take my breath away. It's those moments of beauty that cause me to feel, to reflect, and to give thanks; a scene that has a power, placidity and intensity that draws me in. It's these fleeting illustrations that I strive to capture. There is a story in these segments of time, and therefore, a story in all my paintings. I am a Fine Art Storyteller."- Dickens.

Collectors Say:

Lucy,

Thank you for sharing such a personal experience. When I first received your message I forwarded it to Linda and the only comment I could fit on it was "wow"; she concurred. We picked up the painting yesterday from the frame store, it's incredible, and the lady said you had been in the day before but didn't know if you had seen it framed or not. So I helped her to stand up on the counter and take a picture while we had it unwrapped on the counter. Your message was powerful, touching, and it does deliver comfort and hope. Thank you. And we love the quote, so much in fact that we plan on displaying it (maybe on an enlarged lengthy paper in a nice script font, something like that, we'll see) at the cabin. Your are a wonderful person with an amazing talent and I do not think it just chance that our paths have crossed in this manner. Best wishes.

Doug & Linda

"I am fortunate to have numerous Lucy paintings in my home. I cannot walk by any of them and not feel inspired. Not only is her artistic ability unbelievably wonderful, but each of her paintings has an inspirational story which gives every one a uniqueness and personal touch that only Lucy can produce. She is, by far, my favorite artist!"

Biography

Arizona Artist Lucy Dickens has created a unique, story-like approach to landscape painting. Dickens selects an image and transforms it into a narrative pictorial on canvas. Her landscape paintings convey an emotional reaction that pulls the viewer into scenes of beautiful tranquility, "I paint landscapes because I'm drawn to moments that take my breath away. Her paintings are individual windows created to instantly transport the viewer to an authentic place and time; to take a journey and to evoke feelings of serenity and grace.

Her most recent series, Experiencing Arizona, is a tribute to our majestic state. "Being a landscape artist living in Arizona is a privilege as well as a choice. My goal with this series is to share the scenery of Arizona many never experience, to explore the pristine Sonoran desert and canyon lakes to magical pine forests and aspen groves, high mountain prairies and the most amazing canyons you could imagine. Arizona is an Artist's paradise and I've dedicated my life to capturing this God given beauty on canvas."

Her artist journeys do not end with Arizona, Dickens and her husband are frequent travelers and she is never without her journal and camera capturing these experiences. Her journey to Tuscany, Italy through the many wine fields, cobblestone streets, and seaside villages gave way to her Portraits of Italy series. Dickens Journey through the Holy Lands series was inspired by a trip of a lifetime cruise where they visited many of the world's holiest and most historic sites throughout Turkey and Israel along with visiting two stunning Greek Isles. This fall she will travel through the New England fall leaves and this will be her next exciting new series!

Lucy Dickens is unique in her approach to exhibitions, as a storyteller, she shares with each painting the story that accompanies it. It is rare for an artist to share what inspired her to paint a given subject including her thoughts and inner reflections. "My art is such a reflection of my heart and soul and my "stories" are an important part of each painting. There is a story evolving all around us and my hope is to inspire others through my images and words."

Lovers of fine art, travel and inspiring stories may find Lucy Dickens as she unveils her new work at the Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour sponsored by the Sonoran Arts League. You will find her at Quail Run Studio, #30 November 22-24 and 29, 30 and Dec. 1st.
