Art Sue Foell studied with notable portrait artist William J. Kalwick Jr.. That experience fueled Foell's passion for portrait and figurative art... which she describes as a "lasting love". Foell also studied with notable landscape artist Roger Dale Brown. Of that experience, Sue Foell has stated, "Plein air painting is one of the most enjoyable experiences there is for a painter."
Art critic Brian Sherwin commented on Sue Foell's portrait and figurative art, stating, "Sue Foell worked as a graphic artist for 14 years – you can observe that experience in her work. Her paintings, in general, are strengthened by her strong drawing skill."
