Forum Friday: Discussions from the BrushBuzz art forum 7-27-12

by Brian Sherwin on 7/27/2012 6:10:03 AM

This article points to recent questions asked on the BrushBuzz Art Forum.

Some recent questions / discussions from the BrushBuzz Art Forum:

1.) Painting over a thrift store painting (Click here to take part in this BrushBuzz art forum discussion)

Artist Sean McCann responded to this discussion, stating, "Unfortunately Goya can't do very much about his etchings that were painted over or desecrated by The Chapman brothers in the name of art!". An artist addressing himself as Chaz offered some thoughts, stating, "This would fall under VARA if the art is created for exhibition.".

2.) How do you 'beat the heat' during an outdoor art exhibit? (Click here to take part in this BrushBuzz art forum discussion)

Artist Sandy Askey-Adams offered several tips, including, "If you can have a bowl of ice setting in front of the fan, that will cause the coolness of the ice water to blow on you.". Artist Jackie Jackson offered some advice, stating, "If you're taking a cooler to an outdoor show, put some jars of ice in there. They are good to place in front of fans but just holding one for a few seconds cools you, especially if you put your wrists on the side of the jar.". Artist Carol Hallock offered her two cents, stating, "Wear natural fibers such as cotton or linen. This makes a huge difference.".

3.) Is it unethical for an artist (or art gallery) to profit from tragedy? (Click here to take part in this BrushBuzz art forum discussion)

Artist Bonita Zieseniss offered her opinion, stating, "I don't think it would be unethical if the artist felt strongly about his subject and felt that people should not forget this tragedy.". She added, "In the case of not offering money to charity, it probably does place the artist motives in question."
