Biography

Born 1980 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Andrew Kish III has always been a student of art. He studied Communication Design at Kutztown University after graduating High School, but realized after his third year Graphic Design was not the career path for him. After an extended leave from school he re-entered the program with new clarity and vision to pursue his passion in Fine Art. While absent from school Andrew was a fixture at his local library and bookstore reading and studying art history and technique from how-to books. Upon his re-admission Andrew had the pleasure of studying with Matthew Daub, a renowned artist and professor at Kutztown University who specializes in watercolor and drawing. After two years of intense study Andrew graduated with a BFA in painting in 2007.

Kish's paintings explore the undercurrent of the natural world. His work describes a metaphysical reality that transcends the everyday experience and plunges deeper into a landscape of subconscious thought. "My subject is personal and completely filtered through my body. As a painting work itself out, it is tumbled through my infinite catalog of experiences and coated by an individual truth. What you see is the visual metaphor of a conceptual uprising." Kish's work has been described as "Cinematic" among other terms because he is setting the stage for an epic revelation to be seen in future frames. "Whether I am painting the figure or the landscape there needs to be a presence of time. What I mean is that the painting exists as a frame in a broader story arc… the viewer creates the past and subsequent future, I give them the now."

Kish's paintings have been the on displayed in numerous Juried and Invitational exhibits throughout the country. He is a signature member of multiple art organizations and is a chairperson for the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. Kish's work has garnered many top awards including the Elizabeth Shober Hooper Award of Excellence, the North East Watercolor Excellence Award, and the PWCS Crest Medal.

Andrew's work has become increasingly popular in print and was featured in the December 2010 issue of Watercolor Artist magazine in a ten-page article titled Control & Chaos by Merideth Lewis. His work is also featured on the cover of the book Artbuzz and his painting "Gdansk" is featured in the annual publication Splash 11:New Directions The Best of Watercolor.

Kish is currently an artist in residence at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem where he maintains his studio and teaches watercolor classes and workshops. Kish also works at his home studio in Slatington Pennsylvania where he lives with his wife and son.
