Aaron Westerberg is a native Californian who grew up in San Diego. Along with music, Aaron enjoyed drawing and eventually took a class in traditional life-drawing.

He flourished in these classes and expanded his focus to include the study of Edmund Tarbel, John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and other 19th century artists. These masters of form, color and light have stayed with him as inspiration as he strives to capture the subtleties that express the uniqueness of his subjects.

Recently Aaron has reached a level of acclaim which includes having his work hanging in major corporations and museums. He was picked to paint a portrait for a celebration of the founder of the Countrywide Corporation, which currently hangs in their executive board room.

Congratulations to Aaron on his winning first place in the May competition. Black is not an easy color to give figure to. Finding the right middle and light values becomes a diffucult task as you wrap the coat round a body. He seems to do this with ease. The hair is also very realistic.

Congratulations Aaron! An inspiring painting. I've been thinking about going to a life drawing studio once a week. Perhaps it's time to stop thinking and start doing.

Thanks Helen. I did life drawing years ago. I've gotten a bit rusty. It's a good time to shake out the cobwebs!

Simple yet lovely. Your understated method says so much. Aaron, congratulations on your success!

I'm glad to hear you have taken life drawing before and if you know of a studio to brush up on it that's wonderful; more and more artists are producing work with figures within the painting. You can't go wrong with this idea.

All those soft grays draw one in. It's peaceful and evocative. Lovely work.

Aaron, you are in every magazine I pick up, every website that I visit...........GREAT JOB!

Why didn't you buy "Sycamore" for your b.day?
LOL. You could have bought it with your winnings from this contest........well, a little more. With all of your success, you could have handled this, I'm sure.

AGAIN, congratulations!!!! Corinne

Aaron Beautiful portrait. And the
way you handled the color in this was
awesome. Black is not easy and you made
it work and kept it interesting and
believable.

That is so true about black. It is one of the most difficult to work with. Lovely painting. you are a modern master.
