Such beautiful and engaging paintings! Congratulations to Tuva Stephans, one of our friends at fine art views! Kathleen Dunphy's painting "Go In Peace" is so appealing and with a wonderful spitiual quality about it. Congratualtions to Carl Purcell for his earthy and unique work. Brian Blood's piece is so very engaging I feel I'm standing beside the water.

I love to see the winners and finalists work. I am definitely not surprised that Tuva Stephans did so well. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos of the outstanding paintings.

A wonderful group of impressive work. I notice that there are more figurative works in the top 15 percent than past months. Is it my imagination or does that seem to be a trend in general. I see more in galleries too. What do you think?

Helen Horn Mussser

Sharon, Figures in paintings make them come to life so that we may identify with them. I've been doing more figurative work now for a while and feel good about it. We would love to see yours

Sharon, just visited your wesite and love the bikers. Lots of energy in this painting. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations to the winners for painting and the judge for selecting great work.

Does anyone know if the judge's winning selections are made from the FAV 15 percent selections, or is that an entirely separate thing from the judge's selections? In other words, does the judge ever look at those entries that are not selected for the 15 percent?
Clint Watson
via fineartviews.com
Kim - the judge looks at ALL entries - the FAV15 are selected completely independently of the main judge.

Thanks for explaining!

Helen and Carol,
Thanks for you so much for your comments! I have truly missed our banter on the FAV blog! It has been a busy time for me, and I hope to share with you soon. I was so excited to see that OLDER BUT WISER did well! I also am glad to know more about how the 15 percent FAV works. I am always excited when I see my work in that section. I am always amazed at the caliber of the artists who enter work and the large number of entries. Having a website has really been an asset lately!

Tuva, "Older But Wiser" is truly a wonderful piece and I'm not surprised it garnered an award. Congratulations! Proud of you!

Helen,
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My neighbor was sitting, reading a magazine in the edge of his garage one Sunday afternoon while smoking his pipe. My husband said, “There’s you a painting.” The subject was so excited; he told me he had to go comb his beard for the photo! My husband was right it was effortless painted with joy! The contrast, smoke and light was wonderful. The painting has a strange ambiance about it. My husband swears he smells smoke!

Tuva, What a wonderful experience for you, your husband, and neighbor. I'm sure the neighbor was excited when you told him of your good fortune. Your husband will probably always claim some of the award for the painting; surely he is delighted. It was your talent and work that created the piece.

Tuva Stephens

Yes, my husband is very so proud of all that is happening. After teaching art for 34 years and drawing portraits of up to 6 portraits of my students when demonstrating proportion, it has paid off. This has been a whirlwind of surprises this 1st year of retirement from teaching.

We are so happy to know you are"on you way" to achieving success in every way. Onward and upward!

Sharon Weaver

Thank you Helen for your kind words. Your opinion is one I respect so your comments are appreciated. Congratulations again to all the winners.
