This month's winners have been brought to you courtesy of FineArtViews which was founded by Clint WatsonYou should follow Clint on Twitter here.

    Best of Show
Award Sponsor: FASO
Judge: Brian Blood

'Urban Passage' by Jennifer McChristian
12 x 9 Oil

Judge's Comments: I very much liked the simplistic, bold brushwork. Very interesting use of light and shadow and a strong composition. The subleties in this painting were wonderful.

    2nd Place
Award Sponsor: FASO
Judge: Brian Blood

San Lorenzo Sunlight by Margi Lucena
14 x 11 Pastel

Judge's Comments: I thought all three of Margi's entries were very strong works. Loose and vivid pastel colors popped from the paper to create interesting scenes. Up close they are very loose but when you back up they really come together beautifully.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: Raymar Art
Judge: Joe Anna Arnett

Canal by Harrison Liou
12 x - Oil

Judge's Comments: Even if this painting were not an exquisitely rendered model reading a book, I would still enjoy it. The abstract spaces are wonderfully handled. There is just enough content in these spaces to tantalize the viewer without holding the attention too long. The eye is continually gently returned to the model and we are invited to follow her gaze to the book. The brushwork is delicious. The restrained palette is a delight. This painting is poetry indeed.

    3rd Place
Award Sponsor: FASO
Judge: Brian Blood

Persimmons by Mark Farina
14 x 11 Oil

Judge's Comments: I liked this painting for it's rythmic design, beautiful color sense and overall imact. A case where sometimes an intimate, otherwise unnoticed subject can become a great painting.

    Finalist - Outstanding Watercolor
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: FAV Jury

Jake by Lynn Powers
20" x 14" Watercolor

    Finalist - Outstanding Watercolor

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

Gondolier - study #233 by Chuck Larivey
10 x 8 Oil

Judge's Comments: I had a hard time getting these guys out of my head. I really liked the looseness of Chuck's brushwork. I also feel like I'm listening in on their conversation during their break from the tourists.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

Black Jacket by Dan Beck
16" x 12" Oil

Judge's Comments: Again very well done, simple and loose, has a Fechin-esque flavor about it.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

The Mighty Mouse by Sarah Kidner
12" x 10" Oil

Judge's Comments: Great job Sarah!!!! Great subject interpreted with powerful, loose brushwork, warm colors with a limited pallette.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollecotr
Judge: Brian Blood

Lipsticks & Nail Polishes #14 by jeannie paty
20 x 20 Oil

Judge's Comments: I felt Jeannie captured a bit of Wayne Theibaud in this one. I'm a sucker for well drafted works with juicy paint!!!

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

alma Mater by Scott W. Prior
24 x 30 Oil

Judge's Comments: Scott's paintng Alma Mater captures the mood and atmosphere of San Francisco. I lived in SF for 16 years. This scene is very familiar to me.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

Red boat, White boat by John Bowdren
48 x 24 Oil

Judge's Comments: I was very impressed by the design and draftsmanship of the painting. Very striking.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: InformedCollector
Judge: Brian Blood

Untitled by Aldo Balding
36 x 48 Oil

Judge's Comments: This painting has a lot going for it. The design, looseness and narrative caught my eye, but what really blew me away was all the wonderful figures placed in the crowd, they were great.

    Finalist
Award Sponsor: Art Ready Frames
Judge: Brian Blood

Summer Day by Tibor Nagy
16 x 12 Oil

Judge's Comments: I found the mood and palette exciting in this work. Beautiful greens, loosely applied. A bold, take no prisoners, approach. Well done.

As always, the paintings featured here are absolutely stunning! Congratulations to those artists recognized in the January contest. You are all a wonderful inspiration!

The interesting subject matter in many of the paintings really impresses me. Great job, artist and judges!

The comments printed for finalist Harrison Liou are obviously intended for a different picture, since nowhere in the painting of a Venetian canal is there an "exquisitely rendered model reading a book,..." no matter how microscopic.

Hope we can read the judge's comments on Harrison Liou's painting.

What a great way to defeat the February blahs! Such fantastic paintings delivered right to my mailbox. I enjoy reading the Judge's comments as well. It helps me to see thing I might otherwise have missed.

Thank you for brightening my day!

I thought Brian Blood's comments on your entries for the month were great. I took a workshop from Brian last fall. He is a terrific artist and teacher, and his comments and critique are valuable.

To all of you who entered the contest, lovely images!Thank you for entering your work for us to enjoy.
"Canal" by Harrison Liou and "Floating Winds" by Carol McIntyre both spoke to me. And because I love animals, "The Bug Watcher" caught my eye as well. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the judge's comments as well.
Again, thanks to all who entered, we do appreciate it!
