Forsythia and Chickadees
by Kathy Anderson
Oil 40" x 30"

Entered in: December 2009

Kathy Anderson has been painting for most of her adult life.  In recent years she has truly found her voice and has developed the ability to see and translate the colors of the natural world to canvas with sensitivity that few possess.

In 2001 an invitation to join a group of painters under the tutelage of the renowned artist, Richard Schmid, renewed and revitalized her work and began a period of intense focus and rapid growth.  Painting for these last 7 years with Schmid, his wife Nancy Guzik, and the group which has become known as the Putney Painters has provided invaluable support and inspiration.

The vision that she bestows on us with every brush stroke comes from a lifetime of intimate contact with nature.  Along with her passion for nature and the interconnectedness of the natural world she is also an avid gardener and spends many pleasurable hours close to the flowers that she paints so magnificently.  This close contact with her favorite subject provides her with not just a structural knowledge of flowers but a true love for the flowers, weeds, dirt and detritus of a natural, healthy garden.

Kathy believes in painting from life whenever possible and carries her paints on her frequent travels.   While she believes that a well trained artist is able to paint anything skillfully, she has found that the intensity and emotion in her painting flows from her love of her subjects, whether still life, garden, figure, or the intimate landscape.

Kathy says, "I view the world with a painter's eye, finding paintings in all of my everyday experiences and travels."

Congratulations to you, Kathy.
It is encouraging to know that your hard work and your love of
your subject matter have landed you in the place that you are artistically!
Seeing such success always motivates me to stay the course, and keep learning. As long as I can improve my skills, I am happy.

You certainly see what years of observing the details of nature and good training yield for Kathy.

Her "edging" produces that quality of excellence to strive for. She worked hard to make that happen.

The shimmering light is just heavenly. Congratulations, Kathy

I especially like the comparison of how this painter "found her voice and has developed the ability to see and translate the colors of the natural world to canvas with sensitivity that few possess". A singer sings with gusto or a gentle slide so to does a painter. A painter uses bold colors or gentle strokes. In the end the song they both produce is heard by all!

Kathy, it's been such a pleasure to see your work "blossom" over the years. Bravo to you!

By the way folks, Kathy is such a fun and dear person. She deserves every bit of fanfare that she gets.

What a lovely painting! Honors are truly deserved. I can see that you truly love your subject-your voice comes through loud and clear. Congratulations.

Excellent spotlight choice! When I look at her gardens, I feel as though I'm in there, working, deadheading, cleaning. Her landscapes display her great ability to capture light and detail. The water she paints is just amazing!

Your painting is beautiful! I find myself going back and looking at your past paintings as much as the newer ones.
