My Friend Tamara by Alexandra Latypova was selected as a Finalist in the July 2017 BoldBrush Painting Competition.
I was born in Ukraine and moved to the US for graduate studies. I live in Rochester, NY where I study at Steve Carpenter Art Center. I began my studies in portraiture and figure in 2016.
I am fascinated by the human form and have a strong interest in abstract realism. Learning from Steve Carpenter has instilled the deep belief in me that in art there is only one level - that of a student. There is no other level.
I am dedicated to the learning of art and beauty for the rest of my life. I am a member of NY Figure Study Guild. I work primarily in oils, with a style inspired by Russian realist painters of the late 19th and early 20th century. To date, my work (a still life in acrylic) was exhibited at the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS) annual Best of America show in 2016. In July 2017 my work "My Friend Tamara" was awarded the honor Finalist by the Bold Brush competition judge Sarah Kidner. In 2017 my work, "The Baker", was selected as a finalist in the Portraits/Figures category of The Artist's Magazine 34th Annual Art Competition.
