Oil and Acrylic...Plein Air and Studio works. Landscapes, Figurative
Since winning the 'best of show' in my kindergarten crayon coloring contest in 1950, I have had a passion for drawing and art. Almost all of my early artwork consisted of pencil sketching figures and old west scenes (barns, trains, horses, etc.). I began painting in the late 80's and was hooked from the start. Most of my education has come from self-study of accomplished artists including Richard Schmidt (books and videos only) and workshops with Illa Guttman, Robert Kroger, William Park, Timothy Thies and Craig Srebnik. I love Plein Air and believe that painting from life is the greatest challenge but offers the greatest reward....the practice improves my studio work as well. It is my opinion that each viewer of a painting has their own set of standards of 'what excites their interest and imagination'. They may not admit it, but in the privacy of their own mind, they make a value judgement of each picture regardless of the artist's reputation, fame, price of the painting. I believe that a painting can speak to the senses of its viewer regardless of time, age, wealth or social status. The true universal language.
